The construction of the Kubrins Merchant House is connected with the name of merchant Matvey Kubrin. He and his children founded the company ‘Matvey Kubrin with sons and Co.’, and at the beginning of the XX century – a Merchant House. Construction began in 1907 and was completed by the end of 1909. According to other sources, the construction of the merchant house covered the period from 1905 to 1907. The building of the merchant house is designed in the Art Nouveau style, which indicates the influence of the St. Petersburg architectural school.

The Kubrins are a merchant dynasty, the history of their pedigree begins with an ordinary Cossack Konstantin Kubrin, his sons and grandchildren supported his family business. As a result, Kubrins grew from ordinary small merchants to large Akmola merchants of the first guild, making a contribution not only to the economy but also to the architecture of the city.
The merchant house is located at the intersection of Kenesary and A.Mambetov streets (Kenesary, 37)

At various times, the district economics department was located in this building, then a famous store known as ‘Raduga’ was located here. It was popularly nicknamed ‘Burnt’ because of a fire in 1944, when a fire broke out and destroyed all wooden structures. By the decision of the Regional Executive Committee as of January 30, 1984, the store building received the status of a monument of history and culture. Today, the ‘Astana’ Trading House is located here.
