Dwelling house of merchant Gabdulvaliyev

It was built in 1909 by the architect Zenkov by order of the merchant Iskhak Gabdulvaliyev. In Verny, the Gabdulvaliyevs’ family owned houses and warehouses located on the streets of Uchilishnaya, Sergiopolskaya, Gostinodvorskaya, Taranchinskaya and others. One of these buildings was the Trading House “I. Gabdulvaliyev with sons”.

After the revolution, the dwelling house was nationalized, with the transfer of the capital of the Kazakh SSR from Kyzyl-Orda to Alma-Ata, in the building housed the People’s Commissariat of Finance.

The monument of architecture of the beginning of the 20th century in the city of Verny was built in the Art Nouveau style. It is a two-story building, rectangular in plan. The main axes are revealed by the arrangement of domes and parapet walls. Facades have a clear horizontal and vertical articulation. Rectangular windows are surrounded by profiled stucco architraves with shelves. Profiled cornice, parapet walls of curvilinear outlines and parapet columns crowned with balls are saturated with wooden, carved floral ornaments.

On November 10, 2010, a new State list of local historical and cultural monuments of the city of Almaty was approved, at the same time all previous decisions on this matter were declared invalid. In this Decree, the status of a monument of local importance to the dwelling house of the merchant Gabdulvaliyev was preserved. The boundaries of the protected zones were approved in 2014.

At one time there was a shoe factory shop here. Today, a catering establishment is located in the historic house of the Gabdulvaliyev merchants. The building is located at the address: Almaty, Tulebayev st., 38.
